ABOUT THE COMPANY

The company was formed in 1984 and continues to operate successfully over 25 years later. We boast an impressive and diverse portfolio of loyal clientele, many whom have remained with us over the years. We continue to be budget conscious and acutely aware of our clients’ financial needs. Our client base has always been obtained via referrals and networking, a fact that we take immense pride in. Clients are never taken for granted and we have worked hard to build solid relationships with a high level of services and professionalism. This, coupled with our desire to create user-friendly design, is the foundation of the firm. The basis of the firm’s success is its team of proven designers, planners and project managers, led by founder Gary L. Smith.
At present, the firm consists of 15 full-time employees who work in an open-office studio space in the company owned and designed building located in the heart of Uptown Toronto. All team members have a high-level understanding of the firm’s roster of projects, and are able to easily share their skills and expertise with one another.

Whether it is a small cosmetic renovation or a complete redevelopment of your space, our full-service firm can satisfy all your requirements. We seek to implement the best design solutions in a cost-efficient manner by listening to our client’s wants and needs, thus providing client-driven designs. By combining leading-edge technology with common sense practices, our mandate is to offer solid and effective designs for our clientele that not only meet, but also surpass, the requirements of the end user. After all, our customers’ objective is to be profitable, and our designs have been proven to increase sales. Though planning and designing interiors is our specialty, we also offer many other related and highly integral services. To make for one-stop shopping, we provide complete Project Management, including tendering jobs, on-site supervision, and sub-trade coordination. As a result, your job will be professionally overseen and delivered, worry free. Additionally, we offer Architectural, Graphic Design and Engineering services. Given our broad range of expertise, we can provide you with a package that will flow, make an impact, and even inspire.

•Graduate of the Interior Design program at Dawson College, Montreal, in 1978.
•Formed G.L. Smith Planning + Design Inc. in 1984.
•Long-time Member of ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario) and IDC (Interior Designers of Ontario)
•Personally BCIN-Registered (Building Code Identification program) with the Ontario Building Department, as is G.L. Smith Planning + Design.

MELISSA TENPOW: VICE PRESIDENT

•Bachelor of Interior Design from Ryerson Polytechnic University, Toronto, 1998
•Joined G.L. Smith Planning + Design Inc. in 2000
•Long-time Member of ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario), IDC (Interior Designers of Ontario), and NCIDQ.
•Personally BCIN-Registered (Building Code Identification program) with the Ontario Building Department.
